5 Agust 2010: Belgium welcomes the “Fryderyk Chopin” two-master with a concert on Pleyel Replica

5 Agust 2010: Belgium welcomes the “Fryderyk Chopin” two-master with a concert on Pleyel Replica

On the 31st of July, the “Fryderyk Chopin”, a Polish two-master of which the crew exists of mostly Polish youngsters, arrived in the port of Antwerp. On August 5th, the sailing ship was welcomed in the port of Oostende. The arrival of the ship in Oostende went hand in hand with a concert in honor of this two-master and of Chopin himself. How can we better do this great Polish composer credit than by offering our very own Pleyel Replica? After all, Chopin had a great liking for the instruments of Pleyel.

The ship itself, with a marvelous ballet in the masts, was situated behind the station of Oostende. The festivities took place at the ‘Klein Strand’ of Oostende. There you could witness, among other things, how the young Polish pianist Tomasz Konieczny, who studied at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice and at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, played our very own Pleyel Replica. More than 100 music lovers turned up for this free concert, and they certainly enjoyed the Chopin music (and the piano!). The salty sea air and the murmur of the sea made this a concert to never forget.
