The story behind Boston – born from Steinway
Boston was launched in 1992 by Steinway & Sons as a more accessible premium brand for pianists, families, and music schools seeking to come as close as possible to the Steinway philosophy. From the start, every model was designed in New York by Steinway engineers, while production takes place at specialized partner factories in Asia under strict quality control. In 2009, Steinway introduced the Performance Edition, followed by Performance Edition II in 2016, featuring refinements in finish and playing experience. Close to the Steinway factory in Hamburg, the Boston Quality Center handles the final preparation and regulation so that every instrument meets the Steinway standard. Today, Boston is known worldwide as the bridge to Steinway: a musically mature choice backed by the Steinway Promise. If you purchase a Steinway within ten years of your Boston, you receive the full purchase price of your Boston as a credit toward the Steinway.
