Frank Braley inaugurates the Wagner grand piano

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival, the Richard Wagner Museum in Bayreuth has entrusted the restoration of Richard Wagner’s historic Steinway & Sons concert grand piano to the Chris Maene Atelier.

The concert grand was gifted to Richard Wagner by William Steinway in 1876, on the occasion of the opening of the very first Bayreuth Festival, and was considered one of the most advanced instruments of its time. The instrument is currently in the workshops of Piano’s Maene in Ruiselede and will return to Wagner’s residence, Wahnfried, after its restoration.

The completion of this exceptional restoration will be celebrated with an inauguration concert on Friday evening, May 8th at 8 p.m. at Piano’s Maene in Ruiselede.

Top pianist Frank Braley will officially bring the piano back to life. He won first prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1991 and has since built an international career as a soloist and chamber musician. With his strong affinity for historical instruments, he is the ideal pianist to make this remarkable grand piano sing again.

Friday evening, May 8th at 8 p.m.
