Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial samples
The Yamaha Clavinova CLP-885 features samples from the world-famous Yamaha CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grands. Bösendorfer is a renowned Viennese piano manufacturer, founded in 1828, which later became part of Yamaha. The Yamaha CFX is characterized by its bright and expressive tone, while the Bösendorfer Imperial offers a warmer and more refined sound. All 88 keys have been meticulously sampled to capture the full harmonic nuances of these instruments.
Virtual Resonance Modelling (VRM)
With Yamaha’s groundbreaking Virtual Resonance Modelling technology, the sound and resonance of a real grand piano are uniquely reproduced. This system takes into account all the interactions within the instrument, such as vibrating strings, the cabinet and soundboard, and the sounds of dampers and pedals.
Grand Expression Modelling
Thanks to Grand Expression Modelling technology, the impact of the pianist’s playing technique on the sound is faithfully reproduced. Just like on an acoustic piano, the intensity and speed of the keystroke create limitless tonal variations, adding an extra dimension to the musical experience.
Grand Acoustic Imaging
With Grand Acoustic Imaging technology, playing the CLP-885 immerses the pianist in the same sound experience as performing on a grand piano. The bass, mid, and treble speakers are optimally balanced and positioned so that every sound produced feels as if it is coming from the exact location on a real grand. The hammers striking the strings, the vibrations, and the reflections are all authentically reproduced.
GrandTouch keyboard with linear graded weighted keys
With the GrandTouch keyboard featuring wooden keys, you can enjoy a highly authentic and realistic playing feel. The white and black keys are coated with synthetic ivory and ebony, providing a strong absorbent texture that reduces playing errors. The keyboard also features an escapement (let-off) mechanism, just like a real acoustic piano. In addition, the GrandTouch keyboard includes longer keys to provide greater leverage and improved dynamic control. Each key of the CLP-885 is linearly and gradually weighted, remarkably reproducing the touch of a grand piano. The CLP-885 also includes counterweights (not available in lower models), which allow the keys to return faster to their resting position. This offers better control and playability, especially when performing pianissimo with a light touch.
Damper pedal with grand piano response
The CLP-885 is equipped with a damper pedal that continuously detects the depth of depression, enabling a half-pedal function. The damper pedal with grand piano response reproduces the resistance curve of a grand: light at first and heavier as the pedal is pressed further. This allows the same nuances in playing as on an acoustic grand piano.
Smart Pianist app
The Smart Pianist app can be downloaded for free for use on tablets and smartphones. The application offers a user-friendly graphical interface and many additional features for smooth operation of your Yamaha Clavinova.
Bluetooth Audio and MIDI
Use music apps on your Bluetooth device to play songs through the Clavinova’s speakers, or even play along. You can also connect wirelessly to the instrument using Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app.
